Finding I/DD Support When a Family Care Plan Changes

Finding I/DD Support When a Family Care Plan Changes

When a familiar care arrangement changes, a family supporting a child or adult with intellectual or developmental disabilities (I/DD) may need to reassess what help is available. Start with the general situation and the questions you need answered; a public form is not a place for private care records.

Identify the type of support you need

A caregiver who needs a break may be looking for respite or sitter support. A situation involving specialized crisis-support needs calls for a different discussion about appropriate resources and readiness. Ask any provider what it can offer, where support is available, and what must be confirmed before services begin.

Know where to find urgent help

The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services lists crisis resources. If someone is in immediate danger, call 911. A website inquiry is not an emergency response channel.

Prepare for a useful conversation

Have a ZIP code, preferred contact method, and a short description of the general support you hope to discuss. Keep diagnoses, insurance numbers and private care documents out of the inquiry form. Ask about the team’s readiness, available staffing and any appropriate referral.

Spreading Seeds welcomes inquiries throughout North Carolina and confirms needs, service availability and next steps individually. See the support overview or request support.
